Today my little lion is 6 months old. He has come a long way since the day I laid out flat, sweaty and high on adrenaline in that hospital bed pushing him into this world. To celebrate I thought I’d write a post on our milestones. Yes, also my milestones because I as well have undergone some major changes and acquired some unexpected skills since he was born.
Leons temperament: Happy, outgoing, active, curious and stubborn
My temperament: Happy, caring, emotional and tired
Leons physical development: He is long and lean with a head full of hair. His eyes are deep blue (much to his parents’ astonishment) and no sign of a tooth yet (although his gums have been itchy now for about 2 months). His head smells like warmth and trust.
My physical development: Advanced back-and arm-muscle strength. Roughly 50.000 bruises around my left knee from Leons carseat banging against my leg. Great improvement in dance-moves as I flounce around with him in my Moby-wrap half of the time and the other half use dance as a form of entertainment. Some weigh-loss despite of eating dark baking-chocolate all day to maintain my milk (that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it). Oh and the hair loss… Some from hormones but other from excessive pulling.
Leons progress since birth: He babbles all day, laughs and smiles. He sings afafafafafa to his grandfather (afi in icelandic means grandfather), bababababa to his father and mamamama to me. I realize that it is possible that we all just hear what we want to hear. He can ALMOST sit by himself (only for a short period of time). He can rotate while laying on his belly and “worm” himself backwards short distances. He can roll from his tummy to his back but not the other way around. He likes to play with his toys but most on the time he stuffs his face with the plush ones much like i have seen my brothers’ and sisters’ Siberian Huskys do with their toys that they are apparently trying to “kill”. He is still on breastmilk pretty much exclusively although we have been introducing him to some food with the BLW (Baby Led Weaning) method. Most of which have ended up on the floor.
My progress since Leons birth: I can catch spit up with my bare hands and feet. I have acquired the talent of being able to do everything one handed (as the other is occupied most of the time). While holding Leon I morph into a rocking chair without even noticing it myself. I can sing a lullaby with a small fist IN my mouth and take multiple punches to the chest, nose and eye while breastfeeding without yelling out loud. I have gotten pretty good at eating dinner standing up with Leon strapped in cotton across my chest.
It has been the single most joyous ride I have ever experienced. Happy 6 months, baby!

I think this is my favourite entry so far :-)
